Young Americans – 30 Years Ago Today?

What were you doing 30 years ago today?

Do you remember? ( Your President Nixon, the bills you have to pay or even yesterday?)

Maybe you weren’t even born then!!

Me?

I tend to live in the moment, but I love how modern technology can remind me where I was and what I was doing.

30 years ago today, as a loved up teenager, I made the 40 mile bus journey from Glasgow to Edinburgh to see David Bowie play at Murrayfield Stadium.

If the truth be told, I wasn’t really a big Bowie fan then but my first girlfriend was and I was a big fan of her!!

I even married the gal.

As Bowie sang …

“With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue
the only thing I ever got from you was Sorrow .. Sorrow”

But we were young, stoopid and very much in love .. so personally I have no regrets.

It’s great to be able to look back with fondness and I hope she thinks the same of me.

Look at that setlist below, even today that sounds superb. I’ve made a playlist for my iphone and will be playing it all day today to celebrate.

Great realistic review of that very same gig from 30 years ago here.

Today, early stop from work, going to BoNess Gala Day of all places for a family day oot.

But home early, catching up with my mates including my good friend Alex, hitting the town and hopefully dancing somewhere til the early hours. Somethings never change!!

Tomorrow .. guess who plays The Usher Hall. Edinburgh, the legendary Burt Bacharach.

Burt was one of my mum’s favourites and the music she played throughout my childhood, along with Roberta Flack and Shirley Bassey.

I’m taking my dad for a day out, dinner near the hall and a wee celebration of mum if you like.

I can remember as a kid, him singing to her, “Anyone who ever loved, could look at me and know that I love you.”

What a sweet-heart!! Runs in the family .. maybe!

To the annoyance of everyone around us, he will probably sing every word!

Love him to bits.

Friday – Lady Grinning Soul?

Friday .. First blog in a week .. very unusual for me.

It’s been a very busy week, I had some fantastically amazing news .. far too early to share .. and quite incredible and totally unexpected.

Things are going fantastically well with my new Partner In Fun .. what else should I call her ..

Girlfriend? .We are too old for that!

Partner .. It’s too new for that!

I’m happy with Partner In Fun .. someone who thinks like me, loves doing what I do, gets me.

We were chattiing on the phone last night and realised that 30 years ago we were both in the same place at the same time?

Woud you believe that we were both at the David Bowie Serious Moonlight concert at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh in June 1983.

Is that Serendipidity? Accidental good fortune?

There we were 30 years ago .. we were both kids at the time .. so near yet so far.

Not that it made any difference we were kids at the time and both have had our own paths until this point.

Just look at that set-list it sounds fantastic even now.

Serious Moonlight

Tomorrow, we are going to see Celtic play Hibernian at Celtic Park .. She also happens to be a Celtic supporter .. Bonus.

Straight after the football we’re going to see my favourite Bowie tribute band in the west end of Glasgow,.

I’m showing my age here, but it is now 40 years since the release of Aladdin Sane and the band are playing the complete album from start to finish.

I was too young to notice at the time and only got into it later, but I love that album and can’t wait to hear them play Lady Grining Soul as its one of my favourite Bowie songs and there are many, it is jus so incredibly haunting.

Whatever you are doing .. Enjoy yourself.
