Its been bloody long week I can tell you!!
A new job kind of does that, stuck in documentation and not able to access the systems and then running just to stand still once you get in there and try to familiarise yourself.
Actually its not Friday yet, but it will be in 20 minutes or around the time I finish this.
Life is mad eh ..
I’ve just been chatting to some girl on a dating site, then on the phone for an hour this evening .. then we disagree on some stupid point and she hangs up … what is that all about?
Are people not allowed to disagree and offer an alternative opinion these days?
Okay so it was regarding Scottish Independence, not exactly trivial.
But some people obviously can’t understand the details or allow an alternative view even for the point of discussion and rationalising their own thoughts.
Personally, I’m in the NO camp, not that I’m completely against the idea of being independent from England.
I kind of like the notion of not having a monarchy and the remnants of a failed class system.
But we’re not getting that, for reasons of trying to keep some factions within the YES side, its not real independence as Scotland will retain The Queen as head of state.
Thats not real independence is it?
Don’t get me wrong, I actually quite like Lizzy, she seems like a nice old lady and I’m sure Charlie is too, but the rest of them and their over-privileged roles and handouts from the public purse?
I don’t think so, get out and make a living like the rest of us.
My main reason for being in the NO camp is .. when I go to buy a car, or even a toaster, I read the blurb and I know what I’m getting.
For me, it seems that Mr Alex Salmond is so hell bent on forcing his opinion of an Independent Scotland down peoples throats that he hasn’t taken the time to clarify exactly what we are getting.
For example .. he says that we will retain the pound and states this as if its fact.
When in fact there is no guarantee of that.
The YES campaign also states that Scotland will remain part of the EU.
Oh yeah, based on what?
The EU legislation is that independent nations must reapply, even the small print of the YES campaign now say they will reapply immediately after a successful election.
But, what they don’t say is that all it takes is one negative vote by an existing member for the EU membership application to be rejected.
The YES campaign then fail to tell their potential voters that the Spanish First Minister has already indicated that he will veto the Scottish application because he does not want Catalan to be able to use this as part of their independence campaign.
This YES campaign largely hangs on the notion that “Its Scotland’s Oil” but is it?
Actually the oil is within UK waters and at the moment the UK Gov sell the rights off to the oil companies who extract the profits and minimise their taxes .. do you think that will change in an independent Scotland?
If Scotland were to keep the oil rights, there is no guarantee how long the oil will last and what then?
I love being Scottish, for a small nation we have given the world so many inventions Penicillin, Radar, Television, the Telephone ( Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh in 1847.
And lets not forget Whisky or Irn-Bru!
But my main reason for being in the NO campaign is that although I love being Scottish, I actually love being British and I’m proud of everything this country has achieved over the years. Being British is an extension of being Scottish in my book.
I think we have a damn fine legal system that we have given to the world, where innocence is presumed instead of guilt, an NHS system that is busting at the seams, but tell me any other nation with better healthcare that is free for all?
So please don’t give me any of the gung-ho rhetoric based on William Wallace and Robert The Bruce. Thats the level that Mr Salmond attempts to appeal to, people who have some historic bias against England-shire and can’t see that what is being offered is as flawed as a buying a second-hand car without the logbook and an MOT.
What next .. they’ll be painting their faces and doing a Braveheart.
Which incidentally was a highly entertaining film but factually nonsense!
But sticking with the Independence vote .. come to think of it .. I love being from Glasgow, so what next?
Independence for Govan?
Well all of that was written 2 hours ago .. its now 2:20am and that chic phoned back to tell me how much she disagrees with me on independence.
2 hours of disagreement .. how much disagreement can you get?
She was obviously sitting with Google and some pro-yes Propaganda.
It’s all about opinions!
Tomorrow, Saturday that is, just to highlight my love of all things Scottish, I’m off to do part of the West Highland Way from Drymen to Tyndrum, about 41 miles in total just cos I love that part of Loch Lomond more than anywhere in this world including The Maldives, Rome, Barcelona, London, Paris and even Edinburgh!
