Rocky Horror Sorry?

The Rocky Horror Show plays Glasgow this week.

The show of choice is the Saturday night and its a sell out as expected.

I was looking forward to going ..  I love it,  love the campness and the dressing up and taking part.   It’s great fun  .. I wrote about it somewhere on here before.

But no .. some fecking unreliable useless pr1ck of a friend who had promised to buy the tickets 6 months ago hadn’t bothered his miserable arse.

He’s apologised .. yeah that makes it alright .. only it doesn’t.

I hate that,   imagine someone punched you in the mouth and then apologised .. all very good .. but you’re still left with the swollen lip.

It’s like that ..  sorry just doesn’t cut it.

Ah yeah but it was his poor wife who is in rehab .. again ..

Bollocks .. they had 6 months since it was agreed they would book the tickets.

So you’re not getting off with it.

The least you can do is actually let people know you havent bought the tickets and not let them find out at the last minute when the show is sold out.

Train Stories – Working From Hone?

Beep  ..

Morning ..

Morning …

Beep .. Who’s there ..

It’s David .. Andy

Sorry is that David?

Yes I’m here

Who else is ..

Beep .. Its Colin

Hi Colin

Beep .. Good morning Trish here .. Is there anybody there?

Hi Trish,  it’s Colin,  we have David, Andy and ..

Hi Trish,   its And..

Beep .. Hi John here,

Hi John …

Beep ..

The last day of week one in this bank I”m working at .. My team are largely working from home as they do on Fridays.

Unfortunately I can’t do that as I don’t yet have my remote access SecureIID through yet.

The office abnd the building in general is pretty empty ..huge offices,  thousands of people and most aren’t in.

Sitting here in the office,  on our usual 9:30 call,  the first 5 minues wasted by people ot dialing in on time then going over the pleasantries and the stuff they missed.

Working from home is such a bonus,   particularly on a Friday and a long lie after a long week.

Followed by an early start after the weekend as no travelling ..

And if you’re really clever,  you batter in and get your work done then more or less have Friday off.

Well that’s my plan!    🙂

This clip sums up a typical conference call perfectly.

The Harlequin And The Clown? #poetry #waterboys

In the great November tale she was older yet still alluring
Her hair grey and longer than it ever had been during
The days that we loved and slept
In her bed of faded wood
In that little place she kept
In a crumbling neighbourhood

We walked along a while
Like we were old companions
But I could feel the gap between us
Yawning like a canyon
She with her church and code
Her extravagant believes
Me a creature of the road
A child of dust and grief

Train Stories – Colleagues!

730pm and the train is empty.

It’s the second Friday before Christmas, most people have fucked off early, worked from home or stayed out in town with colleagues.

I was supposed to meet friends in Edinburgh but it’s been a long week and I couldn’t be arsed.

My ex colleagues are out in Glasgow. That sounded like a better gig .. Until Alex texted me at 5pm and couldn’t put a sentence together.

Might give that a miss!

5pm and I’m clock watching wanting to go home. …

When those bastards that I work for start bringing in beer, cider, wine, pizza, nipples … Did I say nipples? .. Obviously I meant nibbles … and all sorts of other goodies.

Just when I was wanting to go home early!!

Now 730pm, 4 beers to the wind and I’m thinking … Wonder what Alex and the boys are up to??

Would you believe that the legendary Martha Reeves and the Vandellas are playing Glasgow tomorrow night?

Got nowhere to run to baby!
Got nowhere to hide!

Online Dating – Wasted Time? ……………………… #TheEagles

Well baby, there you stand
With your little head, down in your hand
Oh, my God, you can’t believe it’s happening again
Your baby’s gone, and you’re all alone
And it looks like the end.

And you’re back out on!! 🙂
And you’re tryin’ to remember.
How do you start it over?
You don’t know if you can.
You don’t care much for a stranger’s touch,
But you can’t hold your man.

You never thought you’d be alone this far down the line
And I know what’s been on your mind
You’re afraid it’s all been wasted time

Another love has come and gone
And the years keep rushing on
I remember what you told me before you went out on your own:
“Sometimes to keep it together, we got to leave it alone.”

So you can get on with your search, baby, and I can get on with mine
And maybe someday we will find , that it wasn’t really wasted time

I love that song, one of the lesser known songs from The Eagles 1976 album Hotel California, desperately sad lyrics of lost love and struggling to move on.

I was a kid back then and The Eagles with their country rock sounds of love, loss, drugs and excess barely registered with this young wannabe-punk.

It may have been American Rock at its finest, but it was so dated compared with the UK punk and pop of the day with The Stranglers and Sex Pistols.

However, the music has passed the test of time while the pop and punk has largely faded away.

That particular song I heard one night flicking through music on random on my iTunes full of albums I’ve collected over the years.

The song was originally the last track on the A-side of the LP, largely ignored because you’d move the stylus back to hear Hotel California again!

But occasionally the album played on, only for the stylus to be removed as at the time, for me it was rather depressing.

Back around the time of my marriage break-up, that song clicked .. even listening to it now, it resonates of dark days and memories that I’d rather forget.

In my own opinion, The Eagles captured that perfectly in this song.

Speaking to people online, you hear the same stories of heartache and loss., People at various stages of self-recovery, some using dating as a crutch, some angry with the world, some nowhere near ready to move on.

But you have to .. you do .. because you can’t go back .. but take my advice .. just tread carefully and don’t jump in too far too soon.

As the song fades out on the album, the surprising orchestral reprise kicks in, so different from the other tracks on the album, sad and poignantly closing the A-side as the memory of the rock fades.

Tomorrow night, The Eagles bring their History tour to The Hydro, Glasgow and this ex-wannabe-punk-but-my-mammy-widnae-let-me is really looking forward to the show!

I’ve looked at the set-list and it looks fantastic, but missing this song. .. maybe I should have wrote about my other favourite song of theirs Desperado instead!! 🙂

Desperado, why don’t you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin’, but there’s a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it’s too late

Yeah I know!! 🙂

Or how about their sexiest song …

One of these nights, one of these crazy old nights
We’re gonna find out pretty mama what turns on your lights
The full moon is calling, the fever is high
And the wicked wind whispers and moans
You got your demons
You got desires
But I got a few of my own

Oooh someone to be kind to in between the dark and the light
Oooh swear I’m going to find you …
One of these nights!!

Have a great weekend whatever you are doing!!

Online Dating – Honky Tonk Women?

4am and I should be sleeping …

House in darkness and silence but I’m wide awake.

Rolled over and reached for my iPad … Big mistake!!

I should have gone the other way and closed my eyes.

Scanning through my newsfeed on twitter I came across the following link ..

Now as an occasional read frequent browser of these sites, this grabbed my attention, particularly as the author writes about the 2 dating sites that I’ve dabbled with I.e. and

The article initially claims to be a guide to avoiding cyber freaks and weirdos and the author tells of her experiences on both of these sites plus Tinder a relatively new free site.

I read the article with some surprise, I’d heard bad reports over the years particularly about plenty of fish which should really be avoided unless you’re desperate or prepared to run the gauntlet of abuse from reprobates that haunt this free site.

But it has to be said POF has it’s faults .. Big ones … But from my experience there are more people there than on The other downside of match is that many people have created a free profile but can’t actually respond to your messages as they don’t have a paid subscription.

Match on the other hand does provide quality rather than quantity. But that doesn’t stop a sleaze ball who doesn’t mind paying the subscription.

What struck me most from the article is the amount of smut and abuse that a woman endures to get a date … Guys who without any preamble make their desires clear and if rejected become abusive or worse.

I’ve heard many stories of women being sent pictures of make genitilia and that includes from men where there has been no prior contact.

Would they do this in a bar or the street? Just because it’s online doesn’t lesson the offence in my opinion.

But Is this vulgarity the norm? What happened to charm? Is romance really dead?

Didn’t these guys learn anything from life?

Sliowly slowly but not too slow!!

The author concludes her article as follows …

“A month later I’ve concluded some may find love online. But, for me, the waters are muddied by all the smut.

The positive is there are definitely plenty of fish in the sea, ladies. You just have to cast your line and be prepared to throw lots back in.”

As it happens I agree with her, but she misses the point as although she’s told us if her experiences, she hasn’t actually told you how to avoid the freaks.

Maybe the answer is don’t do it .. Or grow a thick skin. Neither of which are ideal when you are a certain age and your circumstances don’t allow you the opportunity to meet people on a regular basis.

I’ve wrote many stories about my online dating experiences, just search dating or click the link on the sidebar for more. In the following article re my friend being catfished I considered creating a female profile or three to investigate these sites from a woman’s point of view and more likely to do that for fun now. .

Once upon a time I also wrote an article called Dating Tips For Girls, how to spot the cheats and liars, the game players and guys that are parallel dating.

Parallel dating as opposed to serial dating. Think about it!!

I’ll really need to stick the article on here.

Tonight, Friday and would you believe I have a date … Yeah can you believe it??!!

We are going to see a Rolling Stones tribute act at The Ferry, sounds like fun!

It’s now 530am… Time to make tea .. Have a great weekend.

An Evil Night Together …,

Sometime around 2am this morning, I was still awake .. feeling sleepy with my eyes closing but not quite ready to drop off yet.

I was flipping channels, looking for something to entertain me, although God knows why, I should have been sleeping as I had to be at my desk at 8am this morning.

This 8am start is breaking up my sleeping pattern, I’d fell asleep after work til 10pm and then was wide awake.

On the Syfy channel, I came across a re-telling of the Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde tale, a personal favourite since I was given a collection of books by Robert Louis Stevenson when I was a kid, Treasure island, Kidnapped and this was by far the darkest story.

I remember as a child watching it on tv, black and white Victorian style … and that was just our tv .. , the gentrified Dr Jekyll in his posh sandstone house, while his alter-ego Mr Hyde roamed the seedier side of the city, frequenting the bars, bordellos and the dark alleyways of Edinburgh looking for his next victim.

The story has been re-told, many times, with many different settings, sometimes with a twist where Mr Hyde is actually Ms Hyde .. any excuse to have a girl get her boobs on at that level of entertainment.

Last night, was the Dougray Scott version from 2008, a made for tv movie, with more drama than action, lots of knowing looks but actually very little happening.

I quite like Dougray as an actor, even although he is quite hammy, he was a very unconvincing baddie in Mission Impossible 2, but quite a charming rogue in This Year’s Love.

I like the story itself, the general concept is that a good man, educated, intelligent, has a darker side, an alter-ego which is set free by the administration of some substance or other.

Where am I going with this?

I like the concept of being free from ties and responsibility to do whatever you feel .. within reason of course.

Don’t you think that every single one of us, male or female, has that that capacity? We are constricted by responsibility, peer pressure, the need to hold down a job, fulfil the role of mother or father, but it’s great to be able to break out now and then? That the more responsible you are, the more likely you are to go wild once the ties are cut?

Unlike the story, I don’t think there is any need for chemical experiments to derive this mind-altering, personality changing substance, they are available in every supermarket or bar.

Personal experience is that there are no limits on women being wilder than men and quite often are. Just watch women on a hen-night trying to outdo each other, complete carnage!

Tonight, with my 8am start, I finish at 4pm, meeting one of my pals in a bar in town, then going to see Goldfrapp, hopefully they will be up-tempo rather than chill-out, but I’m sure they will finish with a high .. any artist that doesn’t spoils the chances of a return visit.

It seems like ages since I’ve been out, even longer since I’ve partaken of any mind-altering substances .. for me, that means Peroni, .. or Stella, , Prosecco and Cocktails.

I’m really looking forward to forgetting all responsibilities and just having a good time.

The movie last night featured the following song Evil Night Together by Jill Tracy, I hadn’t heard it before or of Jill Tracy, but I like it a lot.

Dilemma – Don’t Get Me Wrong??!!

Don’t get me wrong
If I’m looking kind of dazzled
I see neon lights
Whenever you walk by

Don’t get me wrong
If you say hello and I take a ride
Upon a sea where the mystic moon
Is playing havoc with the tide
Don’t get me wrong

Don’t get me wrong
If I’m acting so distracted
I’m thinking about the fireworks
That go off when you smile

Don’t get me wrong
If I split like light refracted
I’m only off to wander
Across a moonlit mile

Once in awhile
Two people meet
Seemingly for no reason
They just pass on the street
Suddenly thunder, showers everywhere
Who can explain the thunder and rain
But there’s something in the air

Don’t get me wrong
If I come and go like fashion
I might be great tomorrow
But hopeless yesterday

Don’t get me wrong
If I fall in the ‘mode of passion’
It might be unbelievable
But let’s not say so long
It might just be fantastic
Don’t get me wrong

Just heard that song for the first time in ages, sitting at my desk, headphones on pretending that I’m working!!

I’d forgotten how good it is, so uplifting, it conveys the buzz of a new romance, how wonderful to have that feeling?

That lyric .. Feeling kind of dazzled each time he/she walks by .. magic!

There’s a girl I know, kind of, I’ve known her on/off for years, We know about each other’s histories, children, life’s but we don’t really really know each other.

We got chatting on an online dating website a few years ago, she disappeared quickly. I don’t think she was too taken by me when I told her that she was a no-nonsense kind of girl.. c’est la vie .. but I still think that I was right!!

Anyhoo .. we’ve had the odd contact over the years and she reads my gibbering on here, so she knows more about me and the way that I think than I know about her, although she does keep a blog and posts very rarely.

I like her, she’s bright and caring, hard-working and honest. She’s had her own cross to be bear but she carries it with pride. She’s a survivor.

Now as fate would have it, she sits 50 feet from me in the same office .. we’ve had kitchen conversations and lunch at the cafe across the road … she’s a lovely girl and even nicer in person.

I walk past her on the way to the kitchen to make my hourly cup of tea.

As I pass her, I deliberately keep my head straight, it would be wrong not to, but often find myself sneaking a glance.

Now and again, she looks up and she smiles and I like the sparkle in her hazel eyes.

Don’t get me wrong!! 🙂

I wrote that the other day, a bit of dilemma about posting it .. I wouldn’t want to create an awkwardness.

But I write what I feel, its open and honest, and is well intended and if she reads this I hope she takes it as a compliment.

Just cos you like the sparkle in someone’s eyes doesn’t mean anything else .. right!!

And now I’m justifying myself like a pure tube!! 🙂

It’s Friday, its 3pm and looking forward to the weekend although I have no plans.

I now have both of my daughters living with me since Laura fell out with her boyfriend and moved in during the week.

She wasn’t working yesterday and the wee darling had my dinner ready for me coming home and had ironed 10 of my shirts.

What a girl .. I wonder what she wants!!! 🙂

Whatever you are doing, have fun!

Its been bloody long week I can tell you!!

A new job kind of does that,  stuck in documentation and not able to access the systems and then running just to stand still once you get in there and try to familiarise yourself.

Actually its not Friday yet,  but it will be in 20 minutes or around the time I finish this.

Life is mad eh ..

I’ve just been chatting to some girl on a dating site,  then on the phone for an hour this evening .. then we disagree on some stupid point and she hangs up … what is that all about?

Are people not allowed to disagree and offer an alternative opinion these days?

Okay so it was regarding Scottish Independence,  not exactly trivial.

But some people obviously can’t understand the details or allow an alternative view even for the point of discussion and rationalising their own thoughts.

Personally,  I’m in the NO camp,  not that I’m completely against the idea of being independent from England.

I kind of like the notion of not having a monarchy and the remnants of a failed class system.

But we’re not getting that,  for reasons of trying to keep some factions within the YES side, its not real independence as Scotland will retain The Queen as head of state.

Thats not real independence is it?

Don’t get me wrong,  I actually quite like Lizzy,  she seems like a nice old lady and I’m sure Charlie is too,  but the rest of them and their over-privileged roles and handouts from the public purse?

I don’t think so,  get out and make a living like the rest of us.

My main reason for being in the NO camp is .. when I go to buy a car,  or even a toaster,  I read the blurb and I know what I’m getting.

For me,  it seems that Mr Alex Salmond is so hell bent on forcing his opinion of an Independent Scotland down peoples throats that he hasn’t taken the time to clarify exactly what we are getting.

For example .. he says that we will retain the pound and states this as if its fact.

When in fact there is no guarantee of that.

The YES campaign also states that Scotland will remain part of the EU.

Oh yeah,  based on what?

The EU legislation is that independent nations must reapply,  even the small print of the YES campaign now say they will reapply immediately after a successful election.

But,  what they don’t say is that all it takes is one negative vote by an existing member for the EU membership application to be rejected.

The YES campaign then fail to tell their potential voters that the Spanish First Minister has already indicated that he will veto the Scottish application because he does not want Catalan to be able to use this as part of their independence campaign.

This YES campaign largely hangs on the notion that “Its Scotland’s Oil” but is it?

Actually the oil is within UK waters and at the moment the UK Gov sell the rights off to the oil companies who extract the profits and minimise their taxes .. do you think that will change in an independent Scotland?

If Scotland were to keep the oil rights,  there is no guarantee how long the oil will last and what then?

I love being Scottish,  for a small nation we have given the world so many inventions Penicillin, Radar, Television, the Telephone ( Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh in 1847.

And lets not forget Whisky or Irn-Bru!

But my main reason for being in the NO campaign is that although I love being Scottish,  I actually love being British and I’m proud of everything this country has achieved over the years.  Being British is an extension of being Scottish in my book.

I think we have a damn fine legal system that we have given to the world,  where innocence is presumed instead of guilt,  an NHS system that is busting at the seams,  but tell me any other nation with better healthcare that is free for all?

So please don’t give me any of the gung-ho rhetoric based on William Wallace and Robert The Bruce.  Thats the level that Mr Salmond attempts to appeal to,  people who have some historic bias against England-shire and can’t see that what is being offered is as flawed as a buying a second-hand car without the logbook and an MOT.

What next .. they’ll be painting their faces and doing a Braveheart.

Which incidentally was a highly entertaining film but factually nonsense!

But sticking with the Independence vote ..  come to think of it .. I love being from Glasgow,  so what next?

Independence for Govan?

Well all of that was written 2 hours ago .. its now 2:20am and that chic phoned back to tell me how much she disagrees with me on independence.

2 hours of disagreement .. how much disagreement can you get?

She was obviously sitting with Google and some pro-yes Propaganda.

It’s all about opinions!

Tomorrow, Saturday that is,  just to highlight my love of all things Scottish,  I’m off to do part of the West Highland Way from Drymen to Tyndrum,  about 41 miles in total just cos I love that part of Loch Lomond more than anywhere in this world including The Maldives, Rome, Barcelona, London, Paris and even Edinburgh!

Freeeeedom!!!   🙂

Will you?

Hows it going?

Well if you’ve been reading my trials and tribulations over the past few weeks you would know that I was just finished with my current project and had left the last bank I worked for on Tuesday this week.

The past few days I’ve been doing security checks for a new bank I had the offer of a job with and great news all done and dusted and they’ve asked me to start next wednesday.

Really delighted about it .. although disappointed that I didn’t get a week in the sun .. bummer!!

Really looking forward to the weekend now and planning to celebrate big style.

Tonight going to Celtic Connections with my cousin Gerry,  a few bands including Blue Rose Code are being filmed for the BBC and looking forward to that although its not really my cup of Tetley.

Tomorrow,  taking the girls for dinner in the Merchant City then to see my favourite musical West Side Story at The Kings Theatre.

Bit of a contrast .. but thats what lives about!

Oh yeah today .. in-between catching up with domestic stuff taught myself how to play this gem from the mid-80s .. haven’t heard it for years but is still fantastic.

Love the sentiment of the lyrics,  the anxiousness before that first kiss and that stunning sensual sax solo.
