Tramps like us … #BruceSpringsteen

The highway’s jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive
Everybody’s out on the run tonight
but there’s no place left to hide

Together Wendy we can live with the sadness
I’ll love you with all the madness in my soul
Oh-oh, someday girl I don’t know when
we’re gonna get to that place
Where we really wanna go
and we’ll walk in the sun
But till then tramps like us
baby we were born to run

Oh honey, tramps like us
baby we were born to run

I came across the following link of Bruce Springsteen’s anthem Born To Run.

I’ve always loved that song, the starkness and desperation of the picture it paints of the lovers trying to make it against the odds.

This stripped down version really shows off Bruce’s vocal.

Between A Father And A Son …,

It’s my dads birthday today, 80 years young and still got all his mental faculties.

My dad is without doubt the smartest, shrewdest, most astute man I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. That includes my years working and studying in Engineering, IT and Banking.

I’ve never met a man so selfless, with the ability to see past himself, so the greater good and take the appropriate action, sometimes to his own personal detriment.

If I’m half as smart as him, then I’m twice as smart as most people.

Train Stories – Beam Me Up Scotty!

One small thing ..

You forget it and it severely impacts your day.

You feel lost and you don’t know what to do with yourself.

You can’t contact your friends,  your family, check your messages.

You can’t check your social media to see what your extended family and friends are doing.

You can’t check twitter,  write a blog,  read the newspapers that you subscribe to.

Then you wonder,  what did we do before we had mobile phones?

What happened to the simple things?

Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I’m getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in
I’m getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute why don’t we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don’t we go
Somewhere only we know?

Somewhere only we know?

I had that song in my head today, well not the song.

It was the line .. I’m getting old and I need … but I couldn’t remember the rest. It was haunting me but I couldn’t place it.

Now I’m reading that line in context and asking myself some difficult questions.

What happened to the simple things?

Not like me to dwell on anything, so I won’t, but sometimes you need to look at where you are to know where you want to go.

Beautiful song, love both versions, the original by Keane and the cover by Lily Allen, I also like the way it was employed in the John Lewis Christmas ad in 2013.

The Platform Lovers – Raspberry Toast!

Carol Ann had enjoyed a fantastic night with Graeme. He had been the complete gentleman, insisting that he paid for dinner, the cocktails before and the drinks in the club after.

It was fortunate that they lived close to each other and he dropped her off in the taxi on his way home.

They’d had a very hot snog in the back of the cab, kisses leading to tongues, his hand reaching across to pull her towards him, then staying there, moving up her side almost cupping her breast, but stopping short, staying away from the bikini zone.

She could tell that he was thinking about it, that all he needed was the slightest encouragement from her.

She was thinking about it too, well it had been a while.

Baby We Were Born To Drive!

So … it looks like that old Tory Government of ours are on the way towards foisting driverless cars upon us.

Transport Minister Claire Perry said:

Driverless cars are the future. I want Britain to be at the forefront of this exciting new development, to embrace a technology that could transform our roads and open up a brand new route for global investment.

Is that right Claire .. exciting technology?

Exciting for who?
