Band practice last night …
Well okay it’s more like 4 guys in a room trying to play the same tune!
Barry the regular keyboard player didn’t show up, so I got the call to bring mine.
There we were in Alan’s from room, banging out tunes and trying to find something that works.
This was only the second time that I’d met Alan and john. Good guys and john is a very talented guitarist and leading the way, letting the other guys know how to use the capo to transpose the tunes from one key to another.
The strange thing was that we were all sitting with our iPads sitting in front of us using the ultimate guitar app to look up tunes, chords and tabs.
Not being a guitarist I had an idea that a capo changed the key as it reduces the length of the strings but didn’t know by how much.
One fret = one semitone higher.
Still learning? I am.
Anyhoo, a couple of tunes worked – Back To Black, Your Song, Caledonia.
A couple didn’t most notably Radiohead’s No Surprises mainly because Alan who was leading this one insisted on making it his own slowed down version.
Love that tune, particularly the piano backing like a nursery theme and I already knew how to play this but he was murdering it.
Seriously just play the song.
Get clever later.
But it was his house so what can you say?
A heart that’s full up like a landfill
A job that slowly kills you
Bruises that won’t heal
You look so tired unhappy
Bring down the Government
They don’t speak for us …
